An in-depth overview of weapon changes.
Sniper Rifles are extremely accurate at range assuming you can aim correctly! Shots will go where you want them to go when using the scope. Without Scope,
the Sniper rifles are dreadful - this is to prevent the use of the "Attack Snipers" (where people run around firing at close quarters without the use of
their scope). If you need to defend yourself at close quarters, the use of the pistol is now recommended. Overall, Snipers are totally LETHAL ARMS in the
correct hands!
Bolt-Action Rifles, like the KAR98K, LeeEnfield and MosinNagant are very accurate at range providing you with a superb weapon to shoot enemies with.
The high damage these weapons produce makes them very versatile guns in the field, and no doubt will be a favourite choice for many CoD2 players.
The Semi-Automatic rifles such as the Gewehr, Carbine, Garand and SVT40 now fire at a slightly slower rate to prevent them being used like machine guns
however their accuracy and damage have been increased. All rifles have been tuned to balance themselves out except the carbine. The Carbine fires slightly
faster than the other rifles however is less accurate and does slightly less damage. Semi-Auto Rifles in this mod as for those who like the high accuracy
of the Bolt-Action Rifles but hate the rechambering time between shots. Granted, these rifles are not quite as accurate as the Bolt-Action guns however
their increase rate of fire make them a very favourable option instead of the bolt-actions.
However, if you find the fire times of those rifles still too slow for you then you could try the Machine Guns: the MP44, BAR and BREN all of which are
very accurate when using the Iron sights although have some kick. These are also high damage weapons and will kill first time in the head or upper body
as you would expect. Again, these are accurate at range and combined with their high rate of fire makes the Machine Guns a very flexible weapon for almost all
combat situations.
But if you're still looking for something with that little bit extra speed and rate of fire, then you should try the SMGs, such as the MP40, Thompson, Sten, PPSH,
GreaseGun and PPS42. These have now been balanced out well to give no bias. It's a joy to run up and spray the hell out of an unsuspecting victim with an SMG, giving
them no chance to even blink. The SMG's lethal effectiveness will no doubt make it one of the most popular weapon choices available, especially on the smaller
maps. To balance out, the SMGs also have quite a large kick and recoil rate which make them inappropriate weapons for mid to long range.
Pistols now fire more like real pistols do, with more of a kick and less accuracy. Their rate of fire and damage is not far from what the default settings were. A
shot from a pistol in the head will kill. To get the most out of your pistol, it is advisable to take your time aiming your shots rather than firing fast and
randomly.
Grenade throwing distances have been decreased slightly and their explosion radius increased. The nades have been balanced according to their weight: Eg;
the German Potato-Masher can be thrown the furthest but do the least damage, whereas the American Frag Grenade can be thrown just over half the distance but
do twice the damage. To get the best out of your grenades, you should run and jump to throw them their furthest. Cooking nades is now available by holding
your grenade button.
Bashing for all main weapons does kills first time, unlike the original game. This was to simulate soldiers being incapacitated due to severe knocks.
Overall, all weapons have their pros and cons when it comes to their usefulness in different situations. (Although I'd like to think that they all have more Pros
than Cons!). I spent a long time finding a perfect balance between all weapons to enable their effective use. Unlike the original game default realism, there is no
bias as to which weapons are best and worst. Each are best suited to their own unique situations which makes every weapon useable and a joy to play with.
Weapons are designed to suit your preferred style of play - for
example, if you like getting up close and personal then the SMGs
are your best friends, or if you prefer the challenge of
shooting small targets at range then the bolt-action rifles will
come invaluable. This is what makes the Lethal Arms Realism Mod
such a brilliant alternative to the standard realism provided
with Call of Duty 2.
And now, as of the FULL Version
