GroupC 3 mini FAQ:

Q: Is there anything I should know before playing GroupC?

A: YES. If you exit a game of GroupC (i.e. return to the main menu), you MUST restart Descent 3 before playing a new mission. Especially before playing a new mission of GroupC.

(Keep reading to find out why.)

Q: Why am I firing little Pyro GLs (or any other obviously incorrect geometry models) instead of the correct weapon?

A: This is a bug, but it's not part of GroupC. The Descent 3 engine itself has an inability to properly unload custom table data. You can read more about this bug in the official D3 Engine Bug List http://www.descentbb.net/viewtopic.php?t=142. Bug #18 is the cause of this problem.

The bug is triggered when any custom table file is unloaded. (e.g. When you exit a game of GroupC.)

Solution:

If you exit a game of GroupC (i.e. return to the main menu), you MUST restart Descent 3 before playing a new mission. Especially before playing a new mission of GroupC.

(Note: Any other table mod that suffers from the geometry replacement bug can be fixed this way as well.)

Q: How do I select the new ships? i.e. Starhawk or Fang.

A: Go to the normal ship selection screen in D3 and select the Magnum or Black pyro, in GroupC you will be using the Starhawk or Fang respectively.

Q: How do I use the zoom system for missiles that have zooming enabled? (see SHIPS table for zooming enabled weapons.)

A: Hold down the missile key just like you do for the mass driver. e.g. hold SPACE to zoom, release SPACE to fire.

Q: How do I deploy the ally RAZ robot in multiplayer?

A: Just drop a gunboy. It will be the RAZ.

Q: Sometimes D3 crashes while running GroupC. Why?

A: GroupC weapons use a lot more particles than the default D3 weapons, some computers may have problems with this, but I’m working to fix that.

Q: Why can't I select the Fang?

A: While GroupC should work with any copy or version of D3, you must be able to select the Black Pyro (from D3 Mercenary) to use the Fang. Therefore, if you do not have D3 Mercenary installed you may not be able to use the Fang.

Q: Can I play my favorite music while playing GroupC?

A: Yes, and I STRONGLY recommend it. (because it's fun)

Here is how I setup to play music during GroupC.

1: Run Winamp (Or some other music player.)

2: Get as many songs as you can. (try to queue up 100 or more.)

3: Set the player to shuffle, and start them playing.

4: Run Descent3, and play GroupC.

If you want to control Winamp from Descent3 then do the following:

Wnapm you can select Options > Preferences. Go to “Global Hotkeys” section and click the “Enabled” check box to turn them on. Notice the table of hot keys below, these will work even when Descent3 is full screen.

Note: After enabling Global Hotkeys, you must exit the properties window before they will work.

I have a Logitech media mouse which has handy track, play, stop, etc buttons on it. That helps a great deal for controlling music while in a game, but it is not a necessity, as the method above works just fine.

Note: If you need to, you minimize Descent3 and go to the desktop by pressing [Alt]+[Tab]. When on the desktop, Hold [Alt] and press [Tab] repeatedly to cycle to whatever program you desire, (just don't click the task bar.). When you want to go back to Descent3 Hold [Alt] and press [Tab] repeatedly to cycle back to the Descent3 icon.

That's about all you need to know.

Q: Where is the current GroupC webpage?

A: Currently, and for the near foreseeable future The main GroupC updates and info will be posted at http://www.descentbb.net/viewtopic.php?p=184224#184224 .
