I. Description
"Half-Life: Blue Shift Coop" allows you to play Blue Shift cooperative, this following guide explains how to run a working Blue Shift coop server with best support. This is not recommended to people that hate bugs, since running Blue Shift cooperative is very buggy due Blue Shift was not meant as an online game. Also, Blue Shift uses another bsp format then Half-Life, so nothing in the maps are changed at all. I just made this because I know that there's people that would love to play Blue Shift cooperative.
II. Requirements
You must have Blue Shift on Steam in order to play Blue Shift Coop, it won't work on Won due to invalid cd key error message. You must also either have an LAN or internet connection.
III. How to install
To install Blue Shift Coop, run "bscoop1.0.exe". You should see an install window popup. Click "Next" twice, and locate your Steam Blue Shift folder. After you located it, click "Next" and "Start". Blue Shift Coop will now install. When it's done, click "Next" and "Exit" to finish the installer. Blue Shift Coop is now installed on your computer.
IV. Create/Join a server
Create a server Step 1: Change settings Starting a server is very simple. However, you need to change some settings first if you're gonna run a LAN server and/or you wanna change the servername and/or you wanna change starting map and/or you wanna make more slots to your server (more then 2 is not recommended though). Otherwise, just jump over this step.
First, find "start.bat" at your bshift folder (C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\youraccountname\half-life blue shift..), rightclick and choose "edit". Now, you should see text like this: @echo off
echo HALF-LIFE: BLUE SHIFT COOP
echo PLEASE WAIT WHILE LOADING
cd..
hl.exe +deathmatch 1 +hostname "Blue Shift Coop v1.0" +map ba_security1 +sv_lan 0 +maxplayers 2
If you want to run a LAN server, change "+sv_lan 0" to "+sv_lan 1".
If you want to change servername, change +hostname "Blue Shift Coop v1.0" to eg. +hostname "My server!"
If you want to run another map then ba_security1 when you start the game, change "+map ba_security1" to eg. "+map ba_maint"
If you want to have for eg. 3 slots available in your server, change "+maxplayers 2" to "+maxplayers 3".
Step 2: Starting the server
Find the "Blue Shift Coop" icon at the deskop, and run. The game should start automatically in a multiplayer server at the map ba_security1 (if you haven't changed the +map line).
Step 3: Useful commands
Popup the console by pressing "~", then write these following commands:
mp_allowmonsters 1 - Activates the monsters
mp_flashlight 1 - Makes players able to use their flashlights
mp_falldamage 1 - Makes players take falldamage
mp_weaponstay 1 - Weapons won't disappear when picked up
And you're done! Now, just type "restart" in the console, and the commands you entered earlier will effect! Everytime you and the other players finishes a level, write "changelevel [nextmap]" in the console.
List of maps you should switch through after ba_security1 (in order):
1. ba_security2 2. ba_maint 3. ba_elevator 4. ba_canal2 5. ba_canal3 6. ba_yard2 7. ba_yard3a 8. ba_yard3b 9. ba_yard3 10. ba_yard4 11. ba_yard4a 12. ba_yard5 13. ba_yard5a 14. ba_xen1 15. ba_xen2 16. ba_xen3 17. ba_xen4 18. ba_xen5 19. ba_xen6 20. ba_teleport2 21. ba_power1 22. ba_power2 23. ba_outro
Left out maps:
ba_tram1,2,3 - Unnecessary train maps
ba_canal1 - Crashes when trying to load map
ba_yard1 - You begin at the end of the level
ba_teleport1 - There's a door that blocks you at the beginning of the level
Join a server
So, Blue Shift doesn't have the server list button where Half-Life has it ? That's too bad.. But if you look at the right side of the screen, you'll see a server list button just over the Steam button. Now just find the server you're looking for.

An alternative option is to write "connect [ip here]" in console.
V. Known Bugs
- When a player gets killed, the game crashes, so don't have a difficulty on that's too hard for you.
- There's doors and triggers that may expose other players when a player cross a certain trigger.
- Friendly Fire is on, so be careful and try not to hit your teammates.
- Changelevel triggers are deactivated.
- You only start with a crowbar and a handgun at every map.
- Sometimes players gets stuck with each other. When it happens, try jumping to get released.
- You can't look at player scores.
VI. Tips
- More then 2 players are not recommended.
- Have "sv_cheats 1" on (don't forget to make your server insecure first) and use "impulse 101" to get all weapons.
- Don't look like the others at the server, change your model and name. Open the console, and write "model [model here]" to change model, and write "name [yournicknamehere]" to change your name.
- If it's too easy or too hard, change skill by opening "autoexec.cfg" at your bshift folder with notepad, and change the "skill 2" line to "skill 1" for easy, and "skill 3" for hard.
- Have a MOTD at your server, Blue Shift supports HTML MOTD's!
