To install BFC, extract the BattlefieldCommander folder into <your_wow_installation>/Interface/Addons. Start the game and sign in, then press the 'Addons' button in the bottom right. Ensure that the 'BattlefieldCommander' option is checked.
BFC is a drop-in replacement for the battlefield minimap included with the stock UI. As such, you can display the minimap just like you would normally (shift-click the score icon while in a battleground). In addition, you can type /bfc
to bring up BFC in any zone (except in an instance).
Players in your party will be shown with a different color than the rest of the players in the battlegroun. If in a raid, each raid group will be colored differently.
The BFC minimap can be resized by dragging the triangular handle in the bottom-right corner (make sure the minimap is not locked, of course). It wil automatically retain the proper aspect ratio.
BFC also contains a feature called 'narrow mode', which trims off the left and right sides of the map. Since this is often empty space on battlegrounds maps, it saves screen real estate.
In order to use the more advanced features of BFC, you and your group must join the same channel (just like a CT_RaidAssist channel). Type /bfcchan
to display the channel selection dialog. Raid leaders/promoted will be able to broadcast the channel to other BFC users in the raid, causing them to automatically join.
Left-clicking the BFC minimap will send a ping to all BFC users who are in your channel.
Raid leaders and promoted are able to send waypoints to other BFC users. Click the < button in the top-left corner to expand the group selection rollout. Select the group (or multiple groups by ctrl-clicking) to receive the waypoint, then right-click the map. Choose the objective to be sent to your selected groups. An icon will appear at the location you right-clicked.
BFC includes a radio menu which lets you send quick status updates to your fellow raid members. In your key bindings, scroll down to the BFC section and bind 'Display comms menu' to an easily-reachable key (I suggest ~). Press this key and select an option from the menu to send a quick message to the raid. Others in the BFC channel will also hear a short audible message.
