Insomniax Recompilation version 1.54

April 1, 2005 by LedMirage

For use exclusively with World of Warcraft version 1.3.1 and higher.
This compilation contains some of the best UI modifications created for for World of Warcraft, it was made initially as a personal collection but after realizing getting some of these mods to work together or even standalone was a bit complicated for the average user I decided to release this compilation. Credit should go to the original authors of the modifications who gave their free time and effort to bring us all these great enhancements to the game.

Details on all the slash commands, websites and other relevant information will be in future versions of this ReadMe file, for now any questions related to usage of the mods in this compilation should be directed to the Insomniax forums or you can check out the somewhat outdated but still useful ReadMe.txt file for version 1.52 of the Recompilation.

Custom Tooltip This mod lets you specify what exactly is displayed on your tooltip as well as allowing you to colorize it statically or dynamically (level, hostile, etc)

It modifies what the tooltips display when you mouseover NPCS and PCs and it lets you customize nearly all parts of it, such as: What is displayed, in what color the text is displayed in and the background and frame color.

Damage Watch DamageWatch - Bare bones fight duration, total damage and DPS reporter. Now tracks fight duration from when you gain aggro until you lose aggro.

Equip Compare In WoW when you shop for items at a merchant and you hover over an item, you get a comparison tooltip showing the "currently equipped" item too. This AddOn adds such a feature everywhere in the game where you can hover over items, such as in your bags, in the loot window or on the reward page of a quest. You also receive comparison tooltips when clicking an item link in the chat box.

The AddOn is enabled by default. To toggle whether it's on or off, simply type /equipcompare. To turn it on, /equipcompare on. To turn it off, /equipcompare off. You can use /eqc instead of /equipcompare. The AddOn remembers the last setting, but it's per account. Type /equipcompare help for usage information.

Gatherer Gatherer is a WoW addon for herbalists, miners and treasure hunters. It's main purpose is to track the closest plants, deposits and treasure locations on you minimap.

The addon does not track like a tracking ability does, rather it "remembers" where you have found various items in the past. It does this whenever you gather (perform herbalism, mining or opening) on an item, and records the specific map location in it's history. From then on, whenever the item comes into range of being one of the closest 1-25 (configurable) items to your present location, it will pop up on you minimap.

When you view your main map, you will also see the item locations marked on the particular map you are viewing there.

NOTE: The herbs, mining and treasure options are per-character settings (meaning it remembers the settings for each character individually. The auto setting uses the character's skills to determine whether they should see the herbs or mines. Treasures are always shown when they are on auto.

Map Notes This one is by far the best and most efficient map notes mod released to date, for full instructions go to http://www.wowwiki.com/Map_Notes

Commands: Left click or Double click on the map to create a Map Note. Left and/or right click on existing map note for more options. Target an NPC and type /nt to automatically create a Map Note for that NPC.

PetAttack PetAttack allows you to bind a key that will make your character say a phrase and send your pet into battle. The phrase is chosen randomly from a set of phrases within the lua file that you can add to, change, or replace. The pet name, player names, and target names are all chosen dynamically.

Further, there are phrase sets for three different situations:

1. Target a mob and hit the bound key. Your character will say one of the attack messages and send the pet to attack the targetted mob. This is the standard attack usage.

ex. MrCuddles! Tear the Rabid Thistle Bear to shreds!

2. Hit the bound key after you are already in combat with a mob. Your character will say one of the assist_me messages and your pet will attack the mob you are fighting. This is good for getting that nasty mob to stop biting you and pay attention to your pet instead.

ex. MrCuddles, get this thing off me!

3. Target a player and hit the bound key. Your character will say one of the assist_other phrases and your pet will attack the mob the other player currently has targetted.

ex. MrCuddles, assist ElvenPlayer!

PetAttack Commands: /petattack [command] or /pa [command]

PetDefend PetDefend will cause your pet to defend other members of your party when they get attacked in much the same way as it defends you. The pet will only assist party members if the pet is set to Defensive mode. The pet will also only assist party members if the pet isn't currently engaged in combat with a mob. No more lazy pets that just sit there and watch party members getting eaten alive.

PetDefend Commands: /petdefend [command] or /pd [command]

PetFeed PetFeed allows your pet to rummage through your packs and select the food it likes, and then eat it. The AddOn can be set to allow your pet to feed when it falls below either happy or content. It also can be turned off, allowing you to just use the bind key to feed your pet at your whim.

PetFeed Commands: /petfeed [command] or /pf [command]

Self Cast Supports a pair of self targeting options. The first option is that, if you hold Alt while clicking a button or using a bound key, you will be the target of the spell, if possible. This won't affect your current target.

The second option is smart self targeting. When this is turned on, spells that can target both you and allies will automatically target you unless you have an allied (friendly) target, in which case they will be cast on that target. If you are soloing, this is extremely useful, as you can simply hit your heal or buff or seal or whatever hotkey without having to do anything else to cast on yourself. It's also useable in groups, but you have to be a little more aware and make sure that you've selected your target before you cast the spell. Of course, it can be toggled off at any time.

Use /selfcast help or /sc help for a list of commands.

UI Scaling:
Using the in-game UI Scaling feature is highly recommended, not only will you be able to see more of the actual game on your screen but you will be able to make use of more action bars and customize the position of multiple screen elements to your liking.

Make use of the UI Scaling feature in-game, hit ESCAPE and go to the Video Options page, once there you want to enable UI Scaling by making sure the checkbox for Use UI Scaling is checked and then move the slider for UI scaling towards the left to reduce the size of all the UI screen elements, hit ok for the changes to apply and enjoy. Using a smaller UI scale than 1.0 will make all your UI smaller and give you a larger area where you actually see the game. In the rare cases where people want to make the UI elements larger simply move the slider past the middle towards the right to scale to a larger size.

Modifying your chat windows:
The chat windows are not modified at all by this compilation, moving them around, resizing them, etc. is part of the default UI from the game.

To move your windows you need to right click on it's tab, the tabs are hidden by default unless you hover your mouse over the window for a couple of seconds (around 3 secs.) - you can remove this chat hover delay from the Interface options - once you see the chat window tab (for the main window it be on the top left corner and it will sat GENERAL) right click it and you will see a menu full of options for that chat window, first and foremost you need to UNLOCK the window or you won't be able to resize it or move it, there's more options there like font size, what channels are displayed on that chat window, how opaque or transparent the window is and you can even create more windows and drag them around to your liking.

Reseting all UI elements positions to their defaults:
There is no reset button found in-game to do this, but doing it is actually quite simple, here is how:

  1. Make sure to exit the game.
  2. Browse to the folder where you installed World of Warcraft.
  3. Browse to the folder ..\WTF\Account\YOURACCOUNTNAME\YOURCHARACTERNAME\
  4. Inside the folder named after your character you will find two files:
    Chat-Cache.txt
    Layout-Cache.txt
  5. The file Layout-Cache.txt contains all the positions for your UI windows that you have moved, including chat windows and any UI mod panels.
  6. You can simply delete the file Layout-Cache.txt and launch the game, a new file will be created with default positions.
  7. You can also edit the file Layout-Cache.txt with a text editor like Wordpad and selectively remove categories

Copying chat color and window positions settings to other characters:
When you spend a lot of time customizing your chat font colors or windows positions and find yourself creating a new character you will normally have to do all the tweaking again, however it is very easy to copy all these settings across your characters for your convenience, here is how:

  1. Make sure to exit the game.
  2. Browse to the folder where you installed World of Warcraft.
  3. Browse to the folder ..\WTF\Account\YOURACCOUNTNAME\YOURCHARACTERNAME\
  4. Inside the folder named after your character you will find two files: Chat-Cache.txt and Layout-Cache.txt
  5. The file Chat-Cache.txt contains all the chat colors and what channels are displayed on which chat window.
  6. The file Layout-Cache.txt contains all the positions for your UI windows that you have moved, including chat windows and any UI mod panels.
  7. Copy the file with the settings you want to duplicate (usually both) and paste it in another character name folder overwriting the existing one.

Backing up UI mod data like Map Notes, LootLink, etc.
If you want to be extra sure not to lose any saved variables then browse to the ..\WTF\Account\YOURACCOUNTNAME\ folder, once there you will find a file called SavedVariables.lua, backup this file by copying it and pasting it in a safe location.

Q: My chat window is on top of the new action bars, how can I fix this?
Go to the Tips for customizing your UI section and read the section about modifying your chat windows.

Q: I am affraid of losing my Map Notes, LootLink info or XYZ mod data, what can I do?
Go to the Tips for customizing your UI section and read the section about Backing up UI mod data.

Q: Somehow I managed to move one of the UI elements off screen and I can't reach it, how can I fix this?
Go to the Tips for customizing your UI section and read the section about reseting all UI element positions to their defaults. Additionally you could reduce the UI scale temporarily.

Q: Can I use XYZ mod with this compilation?
Most mods that do not affect the functionality of another one should work without any problems, I put a lot of effort in keeping this compilation as modular as possible. If you need help getting a specific mod to work contact me by posting on our forums.

Q: My party members portraits are all stacked up, why?
If you have used cosmos recently, then uninstalled it, this is a common bug caused by it not removing all files it should. You will need to delte your layout-cache.txt file inside your ..\WTF\Account\YOURACCOUNTNAME\CHARACTERNAME folder.

Q: My game is lagging, caching a lot or even crashing when I do anything, what's causing this?
Do not move any of the action bars completely or partially off the screen in a quick attempt to hide them, you can hide them by clicking the red arrow button until you get to a configuration where you don't see the bar and then toggle off the green buttons instead. If you do move action bars off the screen expect problems.

Q: What are those health/mana bars that popup during combat and how do I turn them off?
That is the StatusBars Mod, you can type /StatusBars for options or disable the mod through your ADDONS menu at the character selection screen.

Q: The buttons under the pet bar are unclickable, how can I fix this?
Another UI mod called "AuraAspects" conflicts with the pet bar causing this behavior, move the Aura bar to where it's not above the pet bar or remove that mod.

Q: I somehow managed to move my CT Mod control panel button and I can't click it now, help!
Minimize the Minimap by clicking on it's X button, you should be able to click the button again, go to the CT Mod control panel and use the slider there to move the button to the 15 degree position. If this doesn't work for you, exit the game, and edit the ..\WTF\Account\YOURACCOUNTNAME\SavedVariables.lua file and find the entry for CT_CPBPosition = and change it to read CT_CPBPosition = 15, then enter the game.

Q: I can't figure out how to move my bags, how do I move them?
Open the CT Mod control panel (Red Book Icon on Minimap) then go to the 5th tab down (Misc. Mods), once there you will see a button to allow the bags to be moved or to reset them to their default position.

Q: There's buttons on the minimap that I don't want or need, how do I disable them?
Go to the character selection screen, once there click the ADDONS button to bring up the full list of addons, from there you will have to disable the mods that enable the buttons individually, they are all named IX MODNAME SHELL and disabling them does NOT disable the mods themselves, just the button on the minimap.

Q: I use ShardTracker but the minimap buttons are blocking it's buttons, how do I fix this?
The Recompilation comes with ShardTracker v1.1 bundled in, but it is disabled by default, go to your ADDONS on menu at the character selection screen and enable it from there. The version of ShardTracker included is identical to v1.1 with the exception of one small bug fix and changed default positions for the shard tracker buttons so they will not be below the minimap buttons.

Q: I am getting a random popup error, what can I do to fix it?
There are no know popup errors except for ShardTracker which is disabled by default in this compilation, chances are you have leftover saved variables and/or mod files from using cosmos or other UI mod packages, do a clean installation of the mod or make sure to at least disable mods that are not part of the compilation before jumping to the conclusion that it is a bug with the compilation.

Q: Anything I bind to the ALT key or any combinations with ALT is not working, how can I fix this?
This is a conflict with Telo's SelfCast mod, type /selfcast altoff to disable SelfCast from using the ALT key.

  1. Make sure to exit the game.

  2. Browse to the folder where you installed World of Warcraft in your hard-drive which usually is C:\Games\World of Warcraft

  3. Once there browse to the ..\Interface\ folder, select any and all files and folders inside of it and delete them, do keep the ..\Interface\ folder but nothing else inside of it. Do not worry, your data for UI mods like map notes, Gatherer and LootLink are NOT stored in the Interface folder and will NOT be lost by doing this.

  4. [Optional step] If you want to be extra sure not to lose any saved variables then browse to the ..\WTF\Account\YOURACCOUNTNAME\ folder, once there you will find a file called SavedVariables.lua, backup this file by copying it and pasting it in a safe location.

  5. [Optional Step] If you used a previous set of UI mods and want to completely clear out any and all data from them then simply log in your character without any UI mod files inside the ..\Interface\ folder, be warned this will completely clear out any and all data from mods like Gatherer, Map Notes and Lootlink but can be beneficial to your performance if you used a previous mod package that left a lot of variables behind.

  6. Extract all files from the zip file ix_recompilation_v1.54.zip to your root game installation folder making sure the use folder names option is checked. If you instead have the self-extracting zip file named ix_recompilation_v1.54.exe then run it and make sure you point it to your WoW installation folder before you hit the Unzip button. You must make sure to extract to the correct folder where you installed World of Warcraft in your hard-drive, otherwise the files will not be extracted to the folders where they need to be and the UI mods will not work at all.

  7. Launch the game and enjoy.

  4. [Optional step] If you want to be extra sure not to lose any saved variables then browse to the ..\WTF\Account\YOURACCOUNTNAME\ folder, once there you will find a file called SavedVariables.lua, backup this file by copying it and pasting it in a safe location.
